3.0 INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION

In 1997 TIRA participated in the 2nd IIRA African Regional Congress

One of TIRA objectives is to cooperate with similar international and other interested organs for wider experiences in the field of Industrial Relations. In pursuit of this objective TIRA have been participating in a number of Regional and International forums as under:-

In 1995 TIRA participated in the 10th IIRA world Congress which was held in Washington DCUSA from 30th May to 6th June the same year and the chairperson of TIRA represented the association through the International Industrial Relations Association sponsorship. Important issues of interest of the African Region were discussed and deliberated in this world congress.ess which was held in Harare Zimbabwe and Tanzania was represented by five Participants namely Godwin E. Ndonde TIRA Chairperson, Christopher D. Mlosy Deputy chairperson, two participants from Parastatal provident Fund and other participants from NASSACO.


In the congress TIRA got an opportunity to present two papers one on Industrial Relations in Tanzania and the second one was on social – Economic effects of structural adjustment. Besides the paper presentation TIRA was also given the responsibility of chairing some of the congress sessions.
As I have said there supra, before the congress in Harare TIRA conducted two preparatory workshops with the aim of sensitizing the members on the forth coming congress. These preparatory workshops were held at Morogoro from 24th to 27th September 1996. This workshop was particularly sponsored by the ILO Area office in Dar es Salaam. Theme of the workshop was Democratization, Globalization and Transformation of Industrial Relations in Tanzania and Africa. The second preparatory workshop under the same theme was held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) from 4th to 7th February 1997.


In 2000 the International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA) held its 12th IIRA World Congress which was held in Japan TIRA was represent in this congress by one delegate from the NBC (Holding Company) in the name of Albert Semng’indo a Human Resource Manager.

Another significant event that TIRA members participated were the 3rd IIRA Africa Regional Congress which was held in Cape town in March 2002. In this Regional Congress TIRA was represented by seven (7) participants from various organization in the country. Arusha International Conference Centre, Tanzania Electrical Supply Co (TANESCO) 2 participants. Ilala Municipal Council and Parastatal Provident Fund one participant.

TIRA/ILO COOPERATION.
In the same sprit of cooperation with similar international and other interested bodies for wider experience in Industrial Relation’s TIRA over the years have maintained a close link with the International labour Organization (ILO) Area Office Dar es Salaam. In this regard ILO has been able to extend a helping hand to TIRA as token of appreciation and good will to what we are doing. The financial and material support has been a moral booster and a big encouragement to our Organization
